Floor Plans

Objectives Define scale drawing Identify interior zones Identify different types of floor plan layouts Define architectural symbols

Orthographic Drawings Diagrams or drawings that are drawn to scale Types of orthographic drawings used in interior design Floor Plans Interior Elevations Sections

Scale Drawing A drawing that shows a real object with accurate sizes reduced or enlarged by a certain amount (called the scale). Something that is drawn to scale has the same proportions has the original.

Scales 1”=1’ (every 1 inch of the drawing represents 1 foot in real space) ½”=1’ (every ½ inch of the drawing represents 1 foot in real space) ¼”=1’ (every ¼ inch of the drawing represents 1 foot in real space) There are many scales that can be used but these are the easiest and most common. The scale that is used depends on what is being drawn to scale, the level of accuracy and how much detail is needed.

Think, Pair, Share Write down your answer pair up with the person next to you Share your answers and be prepared to share your ideas with the class. Of these four occupations which one would need to have scale drawings with more accuracy and detail? Which one could do with less? Realtor Architect Engineer Interior Designer

Floor Plan A visual of a room or building scaled and viewed from above. 2-dementional “bird’s eye view” of the layout of the space. Exact placement and measurements of architectural features and utilities
