Mrs. Humphries 6th grade World Cultures and Geography 2017-2018 Welcome Students & Parents! World Cultures and Geography Grades: Students will be given assignments in class, and will be made aware of all tests, projects, and quizzes. All major assignments and project rubrics will be reviewed in class and then posted on my teacher webpage. Course Overview: World Cultures and Geography: McGrawHillEducation, 2016 Take home social studies textbooks are available by request. Mr. Muscarello, our assistant principal, is in charge of textbooks. There is also an online version of the text available. On-line textbook instructions will be demonstrated and explained in class and your child’s username/password will be sent home. (Sometime within the first 4 weeks of school.) Textbook: Major grades (min.3 per 9 weeks) ½ of a student’s overall average *Major grades include tests and projects. Daily grades (min.11 per 9 weeks) ½ of a student’s overall average. *Daily grades include homework, classwork, quizzes, notebook grades, worksheets, etc. Homework: Students will be assigned homework for practice and to prepare for tests and quizzes. It is the student’s responsibility to write down any and all assignments and their due dates in their notebooks. Make-Up Work: When a student is absent, it is THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE STUDENT to obtain and complete any missed work, notes, or assignments. There will be a “Master Spiral” available for copying any notes taken in class. Also, students should check the “absent box” for any missed handouts. Late Work: Students who fail to turn in work on the due date will lose points as per the BMS late work policy. This policy will be thoroughly explained in class. Late work will be accepted with point deductions as follows: 1st day late: -10 points 2nd day late: -20 points 3rd day late: -30 points This is BMS school policy. Parents will NOT be contacted for missing or late daily assignments. Please ask for clarification if you have any questions about the late work policy. Everyday Supplies Needed: 3 inch binder 2 one-subject spirals (dedicated to this class) Pens (blue or black) Pencils (standard) Colored map pencils Tape Glue sticks
