Weekly assignments will include independent AR reading at home, weekly spelling tests and weekly reading tests. Mrs. Stephanie Kunka & Mrs. Melissa Richards Important Dates September 4: No School (Labor Day) September 5: “Back to School” Night (Parents only) @South Campus 6-8 pm September 8: Action Territory Night 4-10pm Math and Science Focus Social Studies and Religion This year we will be learning all about the regions of the United States and the great state of Wisconsin We will also learn about our National Parks through a National Parks Project Religion will focus on becoming a friend of Jesus and learning how God reveals himself through our words and actions. Learning Targets: Reading: Describe in depth a character, setting or event in a story or drama, drawing specific details from the text. Religion: Explain how creation tells us about God Describe how God reveals himself through Jesus Language Arts: Spell grade appropriate words correctly, consulting references as needed Social Studies: Define the study of geography, and give examples of questions geographers might ask. Math: Develop understanding and fluency with multi-digit multiplication, and developing understanding of dividing to find quotients involving multi-digit dividends. Science: Model the steps in the rock cycle, explain what the rock cycle is, and describe the processes that take place during the rock cycle. In Math this month, our main focus is place value. The students will be modeling the 10-to-1 relationship among place-value positions in the base-ten number system, reading and writing numbers in standard form, word form, and expanded form, comparing and ordering whole numbers based on the values of the digits in each number, and renaming whole numbers by regrouping. In Science, we will be focusing on the three types of rocks and the Rock Cycle this month. The “Big Idea” of Science this month is that rocks and soils are formed and broken down by natural processes.
