What is LOD ? Concept(Presentation) Design Development Documentation Construction Facilities Management Level of Detail or Level of Development is a measure of the amount of information provided. As one progresses through the LOD, higher the number more is the details defined for an item. The items properties are objective in nature and are hence specific in nature. Example: LOD levels for a chair might go: LOD 100 = there is a chair LOD 200 = there is a chair that has nominal space requirement of 500x500 LOD 300 = there is a chair with arm rests and wheels LOD 400 = manufacturer and model number LOD 500 = manufacturer and model number, supplier, date purchased www.verveengineering.sg | Email: teamengineering@vervetech.sg

Information related to the Model Element ( i.e. cost per square foot, tonnage of HVAC, etc.) can be derived from other Model Elements. Conceptual 100 The Model Element is graphically represented within the Model as a generic system, object, or assembly with approximate quantities, size, shape, location, and orientation. Non-graphic information may also be attached to the Model Element. Generic Placeholders 200 The Model Element is graphically represented within the Model as specific system, object or assembly in terms of quantity, size, shape, location, and orientation. Non-graphic information may also be attached to the Model Element. Specific Assemblies 300 Detailed Assemblies The Model Element is graphically represented within the Model as a specific system, object or assembly in terms of size, shape, location, quantity, and orientation with detailing, fabrication, assembly, and installation information. Applying LOD Structure With the examples we have seen, we understood that the Level Of Detail (LOD) is a measure of the amount of information provided within the Revit model. Each and every element modeled can be detailed to an extent which can be up to LOD 500. The example below shows how LOD can be applied for detailed structural modeling.
