Tulare County Youth Commission Grant-Writing Workshop 2017-18 Grant Cycle Tuesday, March 7, 2017 3:00 p.m.

Tulare County Youth Commission Created by Board of Supervisors to review applications and recommend grant awards Eleven member advisory group Board of Supervisors makes final decision

Step Up Youth Activities Grant Program Established by Tulare County Board of Supervisors in May 2008 $100,000 Countywide; $20,000 per district Grant awards between $5,000 and $10,000

Step Up Youth Activities Grant Program Must have 501 (c) 3 tax status Preference given for start up program, working with at-risk youth, and/or programs that leverage other funds, and underserved areas or underserved populations

Minimum Requirements Checklist Submit original application plus 6 stapled copies (7 total) One copy of organization’s most recent Federal tax return One copy of the agency’s most recent fiscal year-end financial statement; One copy of the agency’s IRS 501 (c) 3 determination letter;

Minimum Requirements Checklist One copy of the resolution of the Board of Directors authorizing the grant application; Do not include instruction, glossary or scoring pages with application Certification: Applications must be signed and dated Your grant will not be reviewed if these minimum requirements are not met.

Application Attachments Action Plan Budget Form Please don’t forget these two forms. They are part of the application package. Without them the application will be incomplete.

Burrel Ave., Visalia, 93291 (no postmarks) Tulare County is not responsible for errors, omissions, making copies or tardiness of your application. Your application is late at 12:01 pm. Board awards funding June 2017

Site Visits The Commissioners will be assigned an organization to visit at least once throughout the grant cycle The sole purpose is to make sure the program is running as described in the application Commissioners will also be there to answer any questions a program manager/director may have The site visit will be coordinated between the program manager and the Commissioner

Reporting Mid Year Report: This document will be sent out by staff via e-mail. A written report will be submitted by the deadline assigned. Commissioners will review and approve funding release at an official meeting. Final Report: This document will be submitted to staff prior to an assigned Reporting Date. Program Managers/Directors will be required to give a verbal/oral presentation to the Commission at the end of the grant cycle.

Grant Awards Commissioners will review completed application. They will vote on funding recommendations at an official meeting tentatively scheduled for April 17, 2017. The Board of Supervisors will approve the final recommendations in June 2017. If you are selected to receive a grant award, staff will send you a contract for your organization to fill out. It will require two original signatures. A letter detailing requirements will go out with contracts. Organization will have a month to return the signed contract with two original signatures.

Summer Programs If you are a summer program who received a grant award, you may be eligible to provide the final report at the end of the program. The Commission can receive the report at an earlier date in the cycle.
