A Little About Me….. Neshaminy Graduate Graduated from Temple University Began teaching in Neshaminy 1992 Married with three daughters ages 22, 21 and 16 Live in the Neshaminy School District

Tonight’s Essential Question What do you need to know to help your child have a successful school year???

Calculators *Recommended Calculator: TI32 or TI34 *Graphing Calculator TI-83/84 OPTIONAL

Notebooks You may use your own notebook for all quizzes provided you come to class prepared. Leaving it in your locker does not count as being prepared! You may not use your notebook on Tests or Basic Skills Review Quizzes.

What’s for Homework???? Posted on the board each period to be copied into student’s agenda book Posted each day on my website Encouraged to bring notebook home EVERY night *Encourage to use online textbook resources

ONLINE TEXTBOOK Algebra I and Course 3 Go to: http://connected.mcgraw-hill.com Geometry: Go to: www.my.hrw.com ALL STUDENTS HAVE ACCESS!!

Progress Reports Grades will be available online through the Home Access Center and will usually be updated daily. I will also tell each student their grade periodically to be recorded on their grade sheet in their binder and signed by you. Interim Progress Reports will be posted online in Home Access at the halfway point of each marking period. Progress Reports are available Oct. 5th!

How to Get Help *If your child is struggling encourage them to arrange for extra help, otherwise send an email or write a note so arrangements can be made TUESDAY MORNINGS & WIN PERIOD After school homework club with a teacher TUESDAY - THURSDAY Online tutorials available with textbook

Keystone Exams Keystone Exams are given to any student who is taking a Full Year Algebra 1 Course. (Algebra 1 Part 1 does not take this year) Keystone Exam scores in 8th Grade count towards the High School AYP numbers. Failure to pass the Algebra 1 Keystone Exam in 8th Grade will result in a remediation class requirement in next year’s schedule at NHS. Given the fast pace of the Algebra 1 Course and the ramifications of the Keystone Exam, if you see your child is struggling, do not hesitate to contact me to discuss possible options. Afterschool review sessions will start up around February to help get ready for the Keystone exam (optional). Last year Sandburg had 93% of the Algebra I students pass the Keystone Exam.
