Depression Diplomacy in the US Neutrality Act Good Neighbor Policy Ban loans & sales of weapons to countries at war. Good Neighbor Policy Withdrew troops from Latin America. The US population was worried about their own economy.

Italy New World Power Leader - Mussolini Italians were unhappy because they were left out of the Versailles Treaty. Italy was in the world-wide depression. In 1935 Italy invades and takes over the country of Ethiopia.

Soviet Union New World Power Leader - Stalin He used collective farms to control production. Soviet Union was in the world-wide depression. He knew Germany wanted to expand to the east.

Japan New World Power Leader - Hirohito In 1931 Japan attacks Manchuria for natural resources. By 1937 Japan controlled North China. The US was concerned about the Philippines. In 1940 the US cut off oil & rubber sales to Japan.

Germany New World Power Leader - Hitler In 1933 Hitler is appointed Prime Minister of Germany. In 1934 Hitler becomes Commander-in-Chief of Armed Forces. 1935 Nuremberg Laws – Jews are stripped of their citizenship in Germany 1938 Kristallnacht (Night of Broken Glass) – government organized riots to destroy Jewish shops.
