What could the Summer Enrichment Programs look like? A sustainable model of engaging summer learning opportunities that: Appeal to student interests - Minecraft, Creating 2D, 3D & Animated Video Games, Developing Apps, Digital Arts, Building Robots, learning circuitry basics, and more Are fun! Focus on creative projects Offer voluntary participation that is accessible to all students Build background knowledge and encourage further learning Create a safe place to practice, and receive guidance in, teamwork and social skills Keeps students engaged in learning during the summer months Offers district incentives for low income student participation

Districts What’s In it for: Student programming in district Build a positive community perception of the school district and learning through the creation of a community hub for learning and support.    Bringing community resources together through the school district to support families and students. Learn about and build connections with community agencies.   Develop mutual support and collaboration opportunities Improve student achievement. Students engaged in learning during summer months – improve retention and the building of background knowledge. Contribute to the development of prospective new teachers Reduced program cost proportionate to attendance by students from poverty. Substantial reduction in program costs through grant funding.

School based summer programs What’s In it for: Families Student programming in district Improved access to services. Improved knowledge about services available. Kids voluntarily participate in engaging educational programs during the summer, allowing parents to participate in adult programming on-site and simultaneously. All services are free.                 Kids Voluntary participation in fun, project-based programs as described. Adults Access to stabilizing services. Voluntary participation in learning opportunities - GED, Literacy Volunteers, ELL, Parent’s first teacher, Migrant Ed. Workforce prep, etc.. School based summer programs

Community Agencies What’s In it for: Student programming in district DSS, Literacy Volunteers, Migrant Program, Cornell Cooperative, Rural Health Network, etc… Student programming in district Offers a site to connect with more families in need. Removes barriers to service for some families Improved community awareness of available supports. Offers time for adults to focus on their own learning and growth. Teachers/Interns What’s In it for: Student programming in district Participating teachers/interns learn new skills and mindsets. Participating teachers/interns receive a unique, hands on, low stakes, opportunity to demonstrate new learning. Participating teachers/interns experience a PD model of learning, practice, and feedback. Participating teachers receive CTLE hours during the ‘train the trainer’ program plus demonstration hours.  Interns receive college credit.

Oswego County Students What’s In it for: Oswego County Students Opportunities for students to: Experience low stakes learning in an engaging, creative learning environment Acquire background knowledge Improve problem solving and critical thinking skills Practice social and team skills Explore STEAM career skills

How do collaborators contribute? Oswego County Students – Pre-K-12 the audience for summer programs Participating Oswego County School Districts Provide the site at the heart of the community.  Market to promote attendance by adults & children.  Provide transportation. Oswego County Community Service Providers  Offer services at the district site Reimburse for low income student participation. ISS Student Summer Program Development Teacher Professional Development - train the trainer programs Coordinate funding Coordinate program evaluations, budget, grant reporting Coordinate data collection  All stakeholders  Offer input into topics for both summer programming and professional development topics
