Fabulous Fifth Graders Sept. News in 5M What we are Learning We have been diving into our new Journey’s reading series. The students have been reading weekly stories and learning new vocabulary words. They are still getting familiar with the new online testing format. In Language Arts we have been working on sentence structure and identifying parts of sentences. We are currently exploring common and proper nouns and working with plurals. The students have completed chapter one in math. This chapter focused on understanding place value of whole numbers and decimals. We are currently working on chapter two which explores addition and subtraction of greater numbers. The students have completed personal narratives and short stories during the month of September. They also continue to show their individual creativity through Writer’s Workshop. The month of September focused on the Scientific Method in science. The kids completed several experiments while learning how the Scientific Method works. We have been learning about early people of the Western Hemisphere. The students are investigating the histories of various groups who created civilizations on both North and South America. The students have all been given passwords for Rocket Math, Journey’s, and Spelling City. Please explore these wonderful online resources.
