Fictional Genres

Fantasy Fictional story that has an impossible story line by using magic or talking animals
A story that could possibly happen, but characters are made up. Realistic Fiction A story that could possibly happen, but characters are made up.
Poetry Has a rhythm and will often rhyme, but doesn’t always have to.
Humorous, exaggerated stories that usually involve a character with a special ability Author tries to make you believe it is a true story Tall Tales
Fairy Tales Short stories Usually begin with “Once upon a time” and end with “Happily ever after” Good vs. Evil
Mystery Suspenseful story about a crime or difficult event where investigators solve the problems at the end of the story.
Historical Fiction Story that takes place in the past and has some real and some imaginary characters
Science Fiction Imaginary-futuristic settings, science & technology, space travel, aliens, and paranormal abilities.
Folk Tales Short stories passed down from generation to generation and told over and over again.
Legends Stories passed down from generation to generation Sometimes written about someone from history, but not a true story
