3 3 genre fiction: mystery * solves a puzzling event, usually at end * involves clues * has a detective or sleuth * keeps reader in suspense

4 4 genre fiction: humorous * funny stories * what characters say or do makes reader laugh

5 5 genre fiction: realistic * characters or events seem real * what characters say or do could happen in real life

6 6 genre fiction: historical * story takes place in particular time period * story includes real event(s) * characters usually from author’s imagination

7 7 genre fiction: fantasy * can be set in any time period * characters may have special powers * actions of characters may seem real even though not possible

8 8 genre fiction: science fiction * setting is usually in future * story usually involves technology

9 9 genre fiction: action and adventure * has elements of danger or risk * main characters may do something unexpected
