Want Your Child to Do Better in School? Have them READ, READ, READ, READ -Read TO them -Read WITH them -LISTEN to them Read Read books, magazines, comics, poems, etc. There is a strong connection between reading a variety of text with reading achievement and vocabulary. 80% of a student’s vocabulary comes from reading and is a direct result from how much is read.* The more words read per year, the higher their vocabulary, the higher their background knowledge, the higher their exposure to the world, and the higher their ability to comprehend all sorts of information.
