5 ILA Materials – Grade 6  Text is Reading Street  Paperback books in a variety of genres for Guided Reading Groups  Workbooks:  Wordly Wise Vocabulary  Grammar  Practice Book (to accompany text)  Weekly spelling lists

6 ILA Materials – Grade 8  Text is Prentice Hall Literature  Paperback books in a variety of genres for Guided Reading Groups  Workbooks: Wordly Wise Vocabulary, Readers Notebook (to accompany text)

7 Supplies  Binder with loose leaf paper  Pens – blue, black, red  Pencils  Highlighter (light color)  Planner

9 Integrated Language Arts Curriculum  Reading Independently  Reading Critically  Reading, Analyzing, and Interpreting Literature  Writing Various Types of Writing  Speaking and Listening  Characteristics and Function of the English Language  Research

10 Assessments  A variety will be given:  Tests  Quizzes  Reports  Essays  Oral presentations  Corrected work will be sent home for parents to sign and return to school  Parents can view current grades online

11 Homework  Daily homework is important because it reinforces and strengthens skills which have been taught.  Assignments are written on the blackboard and available on my wikispace  www.stleoschool.org  Click classrooms  Click seventh grade  Click Mrs.Tucker’s wikispace  Parents will receive an email when their son/daughter does not come to class with his/her homework. Student must complete assignment but will only receive half credit.

12 Contests  News feature for The Newspaper in Education Contest (Gr. 6 & 8)  Scholastics Writing Contest (Gr. 8)  Personal reflection piece for The Catholic Daughters of the Americas Contest (Gr. 6 & 8)

13 Discipline  Refer to our handbook –  We affirm the inherent value of every individual and uphold the respect due to each because of his or her uniqueness as a child of God. Students are expected to conduct themselves in a manner that reflects favorably on themselves, their families, and their school. Students are expected to have respect and to show consideration to the other students in the school and to the administration, faculty, and staff. They are to cooperate to create a harmonious school atmosphere.

14 Demerits  Demerits will be given for behavior issues:  Disruptive in class  Being disrespectful  Physical infractions  After three demerits (from any/all teachers), the student will be assigned an after school detention.

15 Extra Help  Students are encouraged to see me for extra help if they are falling behind in class or if they have been absent.

16 Report Cards and Progress Reports  Report cards are distributed in December, March, and May.  Progress reports are distributed halfway through each trimester.  Conferences will be in November.  Please email me if you have a concern and would like to schedule a meeting, and we can arrange it.
