What's the difference between LEADERSHIP & MANAGEMENT? Leadership- all about change....encouraging & inspiring others  leaders have followers  transformational benefits Transformational vs transactional? Management – getting things done by organising others  Transactional relationship

What managers do The role of managers includes: Leading communicating objectives and directing subordinates to achieving these goals motivating subordinates Making decisions allocation of resources day to day running of the business Reviewing monitoring performance against objectives taking action as necessary Further reading on the role of a manager. http://smallbusiness.chron.com/list-business-management-responsibilities-19119.html

Authoritarian Paternalistic Laissez-faire Democratic Leadership Styles Leaders discuss with workers after making decisions PaternalLeaders will listen, explain issues and consult with the workforce but will not allow them to take the final decision Decisions are made as a team – the leader listens to the workers Leaders leave their colleagues to get on with their work so there is no supervision or control Authoritarian Paternalistic Laissez-faire Democratic

Types of leadership Styles Autocractic – the leader makes a decision without consultation e.g. in the army when quick decisions are required in battle Democratic – the leader consults the team but makes the final decision e.g. a skilled workforce where each team member can make strong contributions Paternalistic – the leader acts in a fatherly way towards the workforce – making decisions based on the needs of the workforce as well as the business e.g. often family or smaller organisations with a more caring style of leadership Laissez-Faire (to leave alone) – the leader allows the team to make decisions e.g. experienced and competent staff given freedom to make decisions themselves Think of a situation where you have been the leader. Which leadership style did you adopt?
