Within lessons there is an emphasis on: Use of number bonds Use of mathematical vocabulary Real life investigations Use of practical resources

All children are encouraged as successful mathematicians!

Other topics that we look at in Year 1: Topic Theme: Great Britain and Northern Ireland Other topics that we look at in Year 1: Superheroes; Homes and Houses; Long, Long Ago and Africa

Literacy: Reading Power of Reading text: The Train Ride Reading in Year 1 Book change – Monday

Writing Power of Reading – writing tasks linked to The Train Ride story. Genres – story writing, weekly recounts about their weekends. In Topic and Science children will also be labelling maps, describing different places in Great Britain and labelling parts of plants.

SPaG Spelling Punctuation Grammar Handwriting These are all taught within literacy lesson.

Assessment Ongoing daily assessment against lesson objectives and individual targets. Continuous assessment against end of year objectives from new 2014 Curriculum. Termly assessment week for maths, reading and writing. In June the children will participate in the Phonics Screening Check.

Homework In Autumn 2 the children will receive phonics homework each week. This will focus on the sounds we have covered that week. We ask that children read every night with an adult. We ask that children practise the literacy and numeracy areas of focus outlined in the termly newsletter. Spellings to be learnt throughout the year from the Spelling folder given out at the start of term.
