International Training Course on “Analysis & Application of Next Generation Satellite Data” Presented to CGMS-44 plenary session, agenda item [H] Here is ~

Background NMSC/KMA was approved as a Centre of Excellence (CoE) in satellite meteorology and its supporting Satellite Operator and Agency in 2009 A member of WMO/CGMS VLab group, in accordance with the successful launch and operation of COMS, and contribution to WMO Vlab TSO since 2012 NMSC has conducted the international training course on “the Analysis of COMS Data” nearly every year since 2007 to introduce COMS data and its application on weather forecasting by inviting COMS users in the Asia-Pacific regions. To prepare the international training course on “Analysis and Application of Next Generation Satellite Data” for users worldwide before the launch of GEO-KOMPSAT-2A

Accomplishments (1/2) Organizing Inviting training courses for developing countries Two training course in 2015 “Establishment of COMS Data Analysis System in the Philippines” for managers and forecasters. March 2015, NMSC : 8 managers with decision-makers May~June 2015, NMSC : 10 meteorologists or forecasters “Weather Forecasting for Operational Meteorologists” since 2014 with the support of Korean Official Development Assistance to promote professional skills of weather forecasting for the developing countries by training in the fields from observations (surface, radar, satellite, etc.) to numerical weather prediction modeling. June 2015, NMSC : 12 meteorologists or hydrologists from 8 countries in Asia and Africa regions  This course will be continued by 2017

Accomplishments (2/2) Supporting the training events of WMO-CGMS VLab group Support the two online conferences for the preparation of next generation satellite Development and application of GEO-KOMPSAT-2A Science week from 27 to 30, July, 2015 hosted by Australia CoE Event week in16 - 20, Nov., 2015 by WMO-CGMS VLab The training course of 6th Asia-Oceania Meteorological Users’ Conference (AOMSUC-6) The application method of RGB imagery using COMS data to the Korean Peninsula Nov. 2015, Tokyo, Japan

Future Plans : Training Program International training course on “Analysis of COMS and GEO-KOMPSAT 2A data” To prepare GEO-KOMPSAT-2A satellite data users in the Asia-Oceania regions from 2016 to 2018 with the support of KOICA (Korea International Cooperation Agency) Contents Korean weather satellite operation policy, COMS and GEO-KOMPSAT-2A data processing, operation of ground station system, satellite data analysis, application and facilities to enhance understanding of GEO-KOMPSAT-2A Period (1st in 2016) 10. Oct. ~ 2. Nov., 2016 (4 weeks) at the NMSC / 18 trainees from 16 counties

Future Plans : Training Program Two days (21 – 22 October) training event of AOMSUC-7 To focus on the utilization of new satellite data with emphasis on analysis of convective cloud and precipitation and severe weather. Date : 2016. 10. 21~22 (2 days) / NMSC, KMA Contents Detection of Rapidly Developing Thunderstorm(RDT) and Analyzing severe convective storm by utilizing new satellite data lead by KMA, JMA and possible CMS. Education and exercise to process level 1 and level 2 data of GEO and LEO satellite data  The event will led by KMA, JMA, BoM and CMA http://nmsc.kma.go.kr/aomsuc7/main.jsp
