Leadership You think your ready to step up? Passionate Leadership in the Fire Service

Passionate Leadership in the Fire Service “Leadership is the art of accomplishing more than the science of management says is possible” General Colin Powell (Ret) Passionate Leadership in the Fire Service

Passionate Leadership in the Fire Service Pick the right person Lead, Follow or Get out of the way Pick the right person for the job! Avoid the Peter Principle Education Experience Don’t pick the person everyone likes, pick the person who people will learn to respect, you may find it’s the same person. Passionate Leadership in the Fire Service

Pitfalls of Some Leaders They can become a little full of themselves! They are the smartest person in the room! Do as I say not as I do! They over promise and under deliver! They just can’t stop talking! Its all about them! Being wrong is not an option! They wont grow within the job! Passionate Leadership in the Fire Service

Qualities of Good Leaders Surround yourself with good people or help the people you have be better. They are not the most important person on the team! Your rank is a title, not a definition of who you are as a person. Realistically promise, over deliver! Check you ego at the door! Passionate Leadership in the Fire Service

Qualities of Good Leaders Provide a Vision and Direction! Support your people they matter the most, but hold them accountable. If you take care of them, the will take care of you. Teaching and supporting will always be better than discipline. The team gets the wins, you get the loses! Sometimes its better to ask for forgiveness than permission! Passionate Leadership in the Fire Service

Qualities of Good Leaders The most important member of your team is the person struggling the most. Don’t be afraid to jump into the trenches and help your team be successful They make the hard right decision and not the easy wrong one. They show confidence publicly and worry privately Passionate Leadership in the Fire Service

Qualities of Good Leaders Their success is measured by the success of those that work for them. You want your people to take your job when your done with it. Do not let the nay Sayers stand in your way. Follow the 40/70 rule Recognize that when the hair on the back of their neck stands up it means something. Passionate Leadership in the Fire Service

Thoughts from General Powell “The day your people stop bringing you their problems is the day you have stopped leading them. They have either lost confidence that you can help them or concluded that you do not care. Either way is a failure to lead.” General Colin Powell (Ret.) Passionate Leadership in the Fire Service

Thoughts from General Powell “Perpetual optimism is a force multiplier” General Colin Powell (Ret.) Passionate Leadership in the Fire Service

Thoughts from General Powell “ Great leaders are almost always great simplifiers, who can cut through argument, debate, and doubt, to offer a solution everybody can understand” General Colin Powell (Ret.) Passionate Leadership in the Fire Service

Passionate Leadership in the Fire Service So, Are you ready? Passionate Leadership in the Fire Service
