Finding Service Projects Region Training Conference 2016 Name, Position

Problem: The club you serve needs a service project Need help finding service events? Having difficulties? Can’t find any events? Want some fresh ideas? Don’t fear! There are hundreds of service projects for your club to do!

WHERE TO LOOK USE YOUR RESOURCES

Kiwanis Ask your Kiwanis Club! Do service events with them! Get ideas that you can bring back to your club. This creates a strong bond with your Kiwanis Club. Kiwanis International’s Project ELIMINATE Maternal and Neonatal Tetanus (MNT) Kiwanis is partnered with UNICEF to eliminate MNT

Community Projects Ideas: Provide supplies or volunteer at the Food Bank Help support local families in need Help at a local pet shelter Volunteer at a local YCMA Clean up local parks Help tutor peers at your high school Volunteer at after-school programs at an elementary school

Lt. Governor/Leadership Team Lt. Governors are a great resource to learn about projects beyond the community level Service event websites Use websites to find service events The Cyberkey has many resources as well! Ask how your club can help with the projects Inter-club events with the clubs in your division Don’t forget the ERF!

Major Emphasis The District Project usually coincides with the Major Emphasis. “Children: Their future, our focus.” To fulfill the Major Emphasis, Key Club International serves children in many ways Key Club has three Preferred Charities that serve and commit to children. UNICEF March of Dimes Children’s Miracle Network

Preferred Charities Information UNICEF Kiwanis International and UNICEF have come together to eliminate Maternal and Neonatal Tetanus from the face of the Earth. March of Dimes This organization strives to prevent birth defects, promote healthy pregnancy, and provide medical support for premature infants. Children’s Miracle Network CMN supports hospitalized children and increases awareness of its member hospitals.

Project Ideas Craft “thank you” cards for Kiwanis and Faculty advisors Make dog toys from old t-shirts to donate to pet shelters Decorate non-slip socks for kids in hospitals Hold a canned food drive Create no-sew rice heating pads

Vision/Service Project Planning When planning a service project, partner with an organization and follow the guidelines below. Planning. Research organizations to partner with and communicate by confirming logistical details with advisors and coordinators. Delegating. Assign officers and coordinators with specific tasks to help the event run smoothly and keep everyone involved. Action. Have all of your plans detailed and finalized. Once you have done this, you are ready to begin the service project. Reflecting. Clean the area that was used. Recognize the members, officers, organization, and Kiwanis for participating in the event. Reflect on the success of the event and consider areas for improvement.
