4 Boys and Girls Clubs Mission: Help children become responsible citizens Provides children with: -A safe place to learn and grow -Ongoing relationships with adult professionals -Character development -Hope and opportunities

5 Boy Scouts of America Mission: Train young boys in the responsibilities of participating citizenship Helps young boys: -Build character -Develop survival skills -Improve physical fitness

6 March of Dimes Mission: Improve health of babies worldwide Objectives: -Identify causes of premature birth and birth defects -Increase awareness of premature birth and birth defects -Support research and programs devoted to this cause

7 Children’s Miracle Network Mission: Provide local children access to healthcare Objective: -Raise funds for children’s hospitals -Ensure funds are kept in the communities the are raised

8 UNICEF Mission: Reduce child mortality Provides children with: -Immunizations and vaccinations against infections diseases -Clean drinking water and proper nutrition -Prevention of AIDS transmission from parents -Protection from abuse, exploitation, and trafficking -Education

9 Planning Service Projects Community Service: Services volunteered by individuals or organizations for the benefit of a community or its institutions Planning Considerations: -Usefulness -Feasibility -Interest/Incentive

10 Dis-Service Projects Important questions to determine usefulness of a service project: 1)How will this project help the community? 2)Could this project be detrimental or inconvenient to anyone? 3)What skills or knowledge does this project require? 4)Do we have the means to complete this project? 5)Would a donation be of more benefit to this cause?

11 Mission Impossible One Does Not Simply Plan a Service Project How to determine if a service project can be successful: 1)Send out sign-up sheets before committing to a project 2)Always know where, when, and for how long 3)Delegate tasks to members if possible 4)Math 5)Compare to similar projects done in the past
