Grade 2 Classroom News February 23, 2017 February 24 - Hat Day I want to welcome a new student to our class. Ava Taylor, from Massachusetts, joined our class a few weeks ago. Welcome, Ava! Next week is February vacation. This is a chance for everyone to rest and get healthy! Enjoy! Students finished the graphing unit. They learned to read bar graphs and pictographs and answer questions based on the graphs. They were also introduced to coordinate graphs. Thanks to the game Battleship, many were already familiar with it. In honor of President’s Day, we read biographies on George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. Students learned to make decisions about important facts vs. interesting facts by choosing the most important to record. The class learned how the mnemonic TIDE will help them write an informational essay: T- topic sentence; ID – important details; E – ending sentence. February 24 - Hat Day February 27 – March 3 – Vacation March 9 – Read Across America Day March 10 – FES PRIDE Meeting March 13 – No School - March 16 – Family Reading Night FES Book Swap March 17 – Art Day March 24 – All School Meeting & Community Lunch
