1. Grade 2 Classroom News December 16, 2016 December 21 – All School Day
With the start of winter on December 21, we have read stories about the winter solstice. We are also reading about how other countries celebrate this time of year. Our field trip to the Mariposa was to continue this study of the Festival of Lights celebrated around the world. Unfortunately, the trip had to be cancelled due to a delayed opening. We are trying to reschedule.
Math: The class is working on place value. We have learned three ways to state a number: standard form (135); expanded form ( ); and word form (one hundred thirty-five). To further their place value understanding, students are counting bills (1’s, 10’s and 100’s) and making trades. They are able to move along a number line from one number to another by showing how to make “jumps” with ones, tens and hundreds.
December 21 – All School Day
December 22 – Last day of school before Holiday break
December 23 – Jan 2 - VACATION
HEALTH – special when we return – BRING SNEAKERS
