Year 3/4 Maths Library visits – pending it re-opening! PE Homework Supporting your child at home Planners Music lessons School website Residential trip

Maths Maths No Problem is the Maths scheme that the children will use throughout the year. Each child will have their own work book to record answers. We now use single aged classes for Maths as this is how the new scheme works best.

Library Visits Assuming the library reopens as planned, we will be visiting the library however the day of the week is still to be confirmed. Please ensure that your child brings their card in a strong bag ready for their library books. Children can only take books out if they have a library card.

P.E PE Kit should be brought to school at the beginning of the half term and left here. PE Kit should contain the following: Black shorts and black joggers Plimsolls and trainers (indoor/outdoor) White t shirt Long sleeved top or hoodie Swimming is for two weeks at the end of the Summer term.

Homework We give homework every week in Year 3/4. The homework includes: A maths activity A literacy activity A topic activity In addition children will be given weekly spellings and should continue to read regularly with an adult. Children should spend around an hour each week on their homework, covering no more than two pages of their homework book. We give out homework on Wednesdays, to be returned by the following Monday.

Supporting your child at home. There are a number of things you can do to support your child’s progress at home. 1) Reading is an important part of success in all lessons! It is essential that your child reads everyday and if possible with an adult. If this is not possible, children should recap what they have read and discuss what they think may happen later in the book. 2) Learning times tables will help develop your child’s confidence in number and significantly helps them in their Maths lessons. There are lots of ways to do this however writing songs and chants is often a very effective and fun way. 3) Spelling tests will be conducted throughout the year and practising at home will significantly improve your child’s success. It is often helpful to support them to understand the meaning of the words and how they are used in sentences.

Planners Children should bring their planner to school every day to have out on their desk for use in lessons. The children will be using them to record their reading and personal reminders. We will check and sign the planners every week and parents should also sign them weekly. If you send a message in your child’s planner, please ensure they tell us so we can respond promptly.

Music Lessons Some children will be starting to learn to play an instrument this year. Your child may miss some of their Literacy or Numeracy lesson that day. Sometimes we may ask that they finish off some work at home. In the morning, instruments should be taken to the correct room, not brought into the classroom. Children will bring them back to the classroom after their lesson, so that they can take it home to practice.

Our school website We would like to remind you about our school website … please check it out for new e- newsletters, curriculum letters, photos of your children’s work and educational links and ideas!

Residential Trip The Year 4 residential trip is booked for the Wednesday 13th- Friday 15th June at Ilam Hall, Derbyshire. The Year 3s will be taught by the staff that do not attend the trip.

Year 3 & 4 School Trip School trips are related to the topics that we study at school. You will be informed by letter of any upcoming trips and the letters will also be available for download on the school website.

Rewards at Round Hill! We will still be continuing the whole class rewards based on the children collecting Connect 4 pieces. Classes also have their own rewards system in place to reward individuals, table groups and the whole class.

Our Class Assemblies Class assemblies are held on Thursdays at 10:15. Each class will have one good work assembly with the exception of Nightingales, who will have two.

Finally … If you have any concerns about your child we are available on the playground at the end of the day. If necessary we can make an appointment if a longer meeting is required.
