Whom We are Renmin University of China, located in Beijing, is one of the leading universities in China, ranked top 10 among more than 1,000 four-year U & Cs in China. Established in 1937. About 20,000 full time students in liberal & arts, economics, business, law, information sciences.

School of Labor and HR(LHR) Jointly established by the former Ministry of Labor and Personnel with Renmin University in 1983, still the only independent school in research and teaching in labor, employment and HRM. Offering bachelors, maters, Ph.D programs in Social policy and social insurance, labor economics and labor relations, and HRM.

LHR With about 400 undergraduates, 350 masters, and 50 Ph.d full time and about 700 part time students. Has close links with Central and local governments and companies. Has extensive connections with ILO, UNESCO, international universities from Europe and North American .

What We Have Done Implementing new concepts and technologies of LLL into our programs, teaching and research (Matching curriculum with society needs, developing skills instead of imparting knowledge only). Doing research learning, training and education of adults. Connecting learning and training with the society’s priority. Working with MOE.

Related Projects Finished Relationships between education and employment. Employment situation and prospects of university graduates(Nation-wide survey). The situation of work and life and career development of technicians and Engineers in China (Nation-wide survey with 7000 sample).

Projects Design and implementation of training programs for Beijing municipal government officials (800 people,2003-2004). The evaluation system of training programs (China Telecommunication). Designing a program for developing a learning organization(three Chinese firms).

Projects (Cont.) Training needs analysis of managers and professionals for four firms. Competency model of effective managers in Chinese firms. Vocational qualification systems in China (for World Bank)

Some Statistics

Lay-offs In 2003 Lay-offs from state-owned enterprises were 2.6M, including 1.46 M males and 1.14 females; Lay-offs from T-V enterprises were 1.44 M, including 0.78 M males and 0.66 M females; Lay-offs all over the country were 4.2 M, including 2.32 M Males and 1.88 M females.

Graduates survey Survey based on a 9778 sample (63.5% male and 36.5% female)of university graduates in 2004: Half graduates find jobs in SMEs 52.4% graduates rely on family members and universities to find the first job. Most of them have no career planning

What We Are Going to Do 1. The analysis and measurement of organizational learning in workplace. 2. Competencies of qualified employees in the knowledge economy. 3. Improving employability by life-long learning.

Joining ASEM-LLL Hub, We can learn the experiences from EU and other countries; Contribute China’s experiences to those who are interested; Work together to develop a feasible and impacting framework for analyzing and procedures for implementing LLL in different countries respectively and Carry out Life-Long Learning!
