This is an overview of what your child will be learning in Term 2 of the Summer Term Year 3 Core subjects Half term Plan Summer 2 2016 English Science Maths In the topic of Light, the children will be able to describe what a reflection is, name sources of light and sort materials into good and bad reflectors of light using the vocabulary of transparent, opaque and translucent. This term children will be looking at Newspapers and writing their own Newspaper articles and adverts. The children will be securing their understanding of place value and comparing and ordering numbers. They will also be securing their use of the four operations ( +, -, x, ÷) The children will be practising using measures involving length, mass, capacity. The children will be learning to tell the time using digital and analogue clocks including using Roman numerals. They will learn to identify angles as properties of shapes and draw 2D and make 3D shapes They will be explaining how shadows are formed and investigate how shadows become bigger and smaller. They will be drawing labelled diagrams to support their findings. Poetry This term, the children will be exploring and learning action poems and performing to an audience. Spelling They will be learning the 100 statutory words for Year 3 and developing their use and spelling of homophones. They will also punctuate direct speech. The children will find and recognise fractions of numbers and objects. They will compare and order fractions and add and subtract them. The children will also identify equivalent fractions and solve problems involving fractions and division. Year 3 Half term Plan Summer 2 2015 RE History PSCHE The children will continue to learn about Judaism In PSCHE the children will be talking about change and develop their skills in being able to deal with this. The children will continue to learn about Roman Life and its’ impact on Britain PE Computing Design & Technology Games - They will be developing their skills in cricket, tennis, basket ball and volley ball Athletics - The children will be developing their throwing, running and jumping skills. During cardio lessons, they will be aiming to increase their level of fitness. They will be learning about e -safety and how to keep safe online. This term the children will be investigating the texture and taste of different breads and make a healthy sandwich to go in their box. French Geography Music The children will be continuing to learn to play the recorder and perform for an audience. They will be learning about trade links and their impact on life in Britain They will consolidate their learning this year, including months of the year, days of the week, numbers and greetings.
