Please note that earrings must be removed on PE days. Please remember to pack a coat on Fridays as the weather is very unpredictable! RE: We are learning to retell Bible stories when miracles have happened and question whether Jesus really did perform miracles. PSHE Looking forward – we will be thinking about global issues, poverty, fair trade, charity and enterprise. Literacy Our Literacy this term will be linked to our Discovery units and will involve: persuasive writing; newspaper reports and non- chronological reports on light and sound. Throughout the term, we will be learning key skills within the English Language to include prefixes, suffixes, apostrophes (possessive and contractions) and homophones. You could reinforce these skills by asking your children what they have been learning and encourage them to find examples in their reading books or when you are out and about! It is important to continue to hear your children read and discuss the text. For those reluctant readers, encouraging reading of magazines, newspapers and comics is important. It is not just about your child being able to read the words but also the understanding of what they are reading. Please also practise the children’s spellings every week. Encourage your children to put their spellings into a sentence using joined up handwriting. Computing The children will continue to use iPads to research their topic. The children will be continuing to learn about coding using a new program called ‘Scratch’. Discovery Local History In week one, we will be learning about an aspect of local history. We have chosen to focus on the White Horses of Wiltshire. If you have any interesting facts or links to the White Horses in any way, please let Miss McClelland or Mrs Grainger know! Turn It Up Science The children thoroughly enjoyed the launch of their new topic during their visit to @Bristol. They took part in a light and shadow workshop and learned all about how shadows are formed and where light comes from. They also explored the exhibition centre, which consisted of many links to our new topic such as a giant human ear, feeling music through vibrations in the ground and hearing sound by placing a straw in their mouths! We will be investigating how light and sound are made through a variety of exciting experiments and investigations. Your children will learn how to conduct a fair test, make predictions, record their findings and draw conclusions about their findings. Get ready to hear lots of new technical vocabulary related to the ear and eye, shadows, reflections and much more! Numeracy This term we will be looking at number and place value, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Please note that children in Year 3 are now expected to know their 2, 3, 4, 5, 8 and 10 times tables at this stage. We endeavour to make as much learning as possible meaningful and ‘real-life’ for example, word problems, shopping and maths investigations. You can also help in all of these areas, especially when out and about! It would be really helpful to draw your child’s attention to clocks around the house, even those including roman numerals, as this is part of our maths curriculum!
