1 Topic: Settlers & Scavengers
Dear Families, this term as part of our International Primary Curriculum (IPC) we will be studying the unit ‘Settlers and Scavengers’. Within this theme children will be learning about the main characteristics of people and cultures that existed during the Stone Age, Bronze Age and Iron Age. They will learn about the main similarities and differences between societies that existed during the Stone Age, Bronze Age and Iron Age and be able to give some reasons for particular events and changes . Our Educational Visit: This term, the children will visit a local synagogue and we hope to celebrate the year with a picnic at a local park. Year 3 Summer 2 ( ) Topic: Settlers & Scavengers Homework: We hand out homework every Friday, to be returned to the class teacher by the following Wednesday. Children will receive a spelling list and Maths homework. Our value this term is: Gratitude Physical Education (PE) and Yoga: We have PE every Thursday and Yoga is on a Monday. Please make sure your child has the correct PE kit as shown on our school website and that all kit is clearly labeled.

2 Philosophy, Religious and Ethics (PRE):
English: Children will be studying Shaun Tan’s The Lost Thing and Jemmy Button by Jennifer Uman. Genres of writing will include narrative writing, newspaper report, debate writing and character descriptions. A reading record will be sent home daily with your child’s reading book. Please listen to your child read on a daily basis for at least fifteen minutes. Encourage your child to practise their handwriting. You might want to visit: This website will help your child to develop their spelling. Science: In Science this term the children will learn about Light. They will recognise that they need light in order to see things and that dark is the absence of light notice that light is reflected from surfaces recognise that light from the sun can be dangerous and that there are ways to protect their eyes recognise that shadows are formed when the light from a light source is blocked by an opaque object find patterns in the way that the size of shadows change Computing: The computing topic for this term is: i-simulation which includes playing simulation games to identify real life dangers and eliminate them in the safety of simulation mode. Philosophy, Religious and Ethics (PRE): In PRE this term children will learn about Philosophers and their questions. Pupils will explore the different arguments for and against the existence of god. They will explore explicitly the concept of epistemology, with reference to the dasamulatattva. Maths: This term, we will cover the following topics at mastery level; multiplication, division, fractions and measure. Nrich is a fantastic resource which can be accessed from home. Support your child to learn the multiplication facts so that they can recall them rapidly. Ask quick fire questions e.g. 12 x 6, 8 x 3 etc. In Year 3 children need to know their multiplication facts for the 1,2,3,4,5,6 and 8 times table. Use inverse to check answers, for example: 8 x 5 = ÷ 5 = 8 ( Apply maths skills to real life problems, ask your children questions such as reading the time on a clock, both analogue and digital. Ask your child to work out the roman numerals on a clock.
