Presentation transcript:

Unit title: 嗨!Hi! Introducing yourself in Chinese Area of interaction focus Which area of interaction will be our focus? Why have we chosen this? Significant concepts What are the big ideas? What do we want our students to retain for years into the future? Human Ingenuity The creation and use of language as a means of communicating. Exploring grammatical patterns as a way of building and creating language. Language is a foundation for everyday life, human interaction and general learning. Communication with others always depends on some form of language. MYP unit question How can we benefit from learning a foreign language? How is learning a symbol/character-based language different to learning an alphabet based language?

Today’s lesson objectives Review summer homework Review rules and expectations from last lesson Learn how to say numbers in Chinese from 1-10 Learn the Chinese hand signals for numbers

Expectations – what I expect from you: Listen in silence when somebody else in the room speaks 2. Arrive to lessons on time, with all equipment and be ready to learn. 3. Follow instructions and respect each other and property

I will need the following for all of my lessons: Exercise book and vocabulary book Textbook Stationery (pencil, pen, ruler, coloured pen, gluestick) Planner/ Homework diary

What you can expect from me: Rewards: ‘sticker’ system – for good pieces of work/listening exercises/manners/trying your best/participating. These will be added up at the end of each half term and the student with the most stickers can expect a prize Sanctions: late/incomplete homework/rudeness/failure to follow instructions/not respecting fellow classmates/constant failure to bring equipment and other forms of poor behaviour will result in detentions, being placed on ‘report’, being sent to HoD, withdrawal or letters/phone calls home

Monitor and record your progress and share details of your progress with you Regularly mark your books To help you when you are stuck To challenge you so you make progress!
