Welcome to Pine Class Maths We will be looking at the place value of each digit, rounding numbers and learning how to use a written method when adding and subtracting. We will also explore 2D shapes. English We will be writing stories with a historical setting. We will also be writing information texts. This will be linked to our History topic Stone Age to Iron Age Welcome to Pine Class Autumn I Have a look at what your child will be doing this half term Important Information Monday - Dance Wednesday – Swimming Reading Books to be in school everyday. Please encourage your child to learn their times tables to 12x12 Science How far can you throw your shadow? We will recognise that shadows are formed when the light from a light source is blocked by a solid object. Topic Who first lived in Britain? We will gain an overview from the Stone age through to the Iron Age. We will consider how we know about a historical period without written sources and to research what it might have been like to live during this period. PSHE We will be exploring new beginnings and personal management. We will be working on becoming independent learners. Computing We will discuss with children what they do online. Explain some of the risks to using the internet and ask the children who they talk to online and then how well do they really know them? P.E. This term we will be swimming. Remember we walk to the baths so all children will need an outdoor coat. Creative Our DT topic this term will be Frame structures and we will be researching, designing and building bridges. R.E. We will look at stories of key religious leaders. We will also explore the key aspects of religions and traditions that influence the beliefs and values of others. Music This half term we will be learning the song Three Little Birds. French This half term we will be learning French greetings, numbers to 12 and introducing ourselves to others. Welcome to Pine Class Year 4 Maths We will be looking at factors, number and place value, multiplication and division  Measurement: money, time, mass, capacity/volume, length English We will be spending time learning the key grammar for year 4. We will also look at a variety of poetry highlighting the use of imagery. In addition to this, we will also continue learning the statutory spellings for Year 4 Welcome to Pine Class Year 4 Autumn II Have a look at what your child will be doing this half term Important Information Friday– Swimming Reading Books to be in school everyday. Please sign your child’s reading record when you have listened to them read. Please encourage your child to learn their times tables to 12x12 Science This half term we will be identifying how sounds are made, finding patterns between the volume of a sound and the strength of the vibrations that produced it. Topic Geography – Where would you choose to build a city? We will explore features of Britain’s biggest cities and compare them to small towns and villages. Children will also choose a major European city to research. PSHE We will be exploring Getting on and falling out: keeping safe and keeping healthy P.E. This term we will be swimming. Remember we walk to the baths so all children will need an outdoor coat. Computing We built this city- Big Robots The project will reinforce an understanding of directional language and programming. We will also continue to develop word processing skills. Creative Our DT topic this term will be Frame structures and we will be researching, designing and building bridges. R.E. We will look at role models. We will also begin to look at the celebration of Christmas and the messages around this theme. Music This half term we will be continuing our music tuition using Charanga French This half term we will be learning French greetings, numbers to 12 and introducing ourselves to others. English We will be spending time learning the key grammar for year 4. We will also be including drama activities which will enhance our writing. We will also continue working with our writing partners as we can share ideas. How did that blossom become an apple tree? This half term we will be looking at plants . We will identify and describe the functions of different parts of plants; roots, stems, leaves and flowers. We will also investigate the ways in which water is transported within plants. Children will also explore the role of flowers in the life cycle of flowering plants, including pollination, seed formation and seed dispersal. Music This half term we will be learning how to play the Samba Drums. We will also be performing at The Foundry on June 20th. Look out for your letter. PSHE We will be looking at Sex and Relationship Education. There will be a meeting for parents prior to the children's lessons. P.E. Indoor PE this half term will be Gymnastics .
