6 Class Routines Every morning- Maths, English, Collective worship
Every afternoon – Topic or Art or PE or ICT or Music etc. PE is on a _________ SWIMMING is on a Wednesday afternoon Library time is on a _________. Recorders is on a Thursday. A precise timetable will come home with the children in September.

7 TOPICS- linked to History, Geography, R.E., Science, Art and English
How do we know that dinosaurs existed? What is Light? How did People survive in the Stone age? The Iron Man What have the Greeks given us? Growing up and moving on!

8 Maths and English Following the 2014 curriculum for Y3- knowledge based with an emphasis on key skills such as times tables and spelling. Age-related expectations for Maths and English More information is available on the school website. NEW times table booklets will be used across the school this year- (national times table test in year 4 from 2019)

9 Reading at Home Please continue to listen to your child read regularly at home and also encourage them to read independently. Please sign in the reading record and make a note of what page your child has got to. Encourage them to answer questions about the text. Do not worry if your child is not on ‘choosies.’ It is not a race!

10 Reading at school We will listen to your child read at school but not as often as in KS1 Priority reading group Group reading Reading skills will be developed further through comprehension lessons and shared stories It will take a little while to organise the children with new books at the beginning of term

11 New for KS2 Different playground Longer lessons More independence
New children in class Quiet reading time each afternoon. Swimming lessons each Wednesday- a letter will go out with all the details on. Fruit is optional and eaten in the mornings at break time. Recorders- the whole class learns with Mrs Bradley.

12 Homework Weekly homework- given out on the same day each week and collected in the following week. The children will all be given a homework folder. It will be: a) Spellings to practice daily with a related activity to help with spelling rules. b) Times Tables practice each week- linked to the whole school times table programme. At school - spelling and mental maths test linked to the homework.

13 Homework Projects There will be several of these over the year. They have more choice and challenge. Each project will have a time scale of about 3-4 weeks. COOKERY BAGS – 5 cookery bags which are given out over the whole year. They contain recipes and equipment and the hope is that you will cook at home with your child and ask them to complete some writing in the book that goes with each bag.
