5 Swimming- Summer Term Lessons on Tuesdays at Walton Excel.
Children travel by coach, leaving school at 9.30 and returning at around Lessons with qualified swimming teachers. Children grouped according to swimming ability. Lessons of 30 minutes, working on a range of front and back strokes and developing water confidence. Tracksuits worn all day. Break time snack - either a piece of fruit, or a plain biscuit.

6 Maths in Year 4 Calculation strategies continue to develop in stages.
Mental maths a key part of this process. Number bonds, understanding place value and times tables are all very important. Problem solving is a crucial part of maths lessons. Children encouraged to ‘try things out’ in order to ‘use and apply’. Practical maths at home will really aid your child’s understanding of concepts taught at school.

8 Key questions to ask Which parts of the question are important?
What do you already know that will help you that will help you find the answer? Why not have a try? Jot down some ideas and see what you come up with. Does your answer make sense? How do you know? Can you check?

10 Reading in Year 4 Reading rota - reading record and book in school at all times. If your child finishes a reading book, they should ask to change it straight away. Books from home are welcome. Reading will continue to take place across the curriculum. Comprehension skills are tested. Quiet reading takes place daily. Reading Record books will be used as in Year 3. Guided reading takes place weekly.  Two books can be borrowed from the school library. A computerised system records titles and borrowers.

11 Hooke Court Residential trip of three days and two nights duration
February 2017 Hooke Court Beaminster The cost of the trip will be approximately £150 per child and you will have the opportunity to pay in monthly instalments. Hooke Court is a Tudor Manor house and the activities undertaken will be mainly based on life in Tudor times There will be a parents’ meeting about the trip.
