Historical Thinking Skills The Learning History is not simply to memorize facts! Teach/learn skills to engage in the “practice” of history . . . “do history” by applying skills to better understand historical themes, course objectives & succeed in other endeavors of life! Chronology: (Historical Causation, CCOT, Periodization; aka: “What belongs when?) Compare & Contrast Context: Connect historical events to specific circumstances of time, place & region. Cannot always evaluate based upon our perspective.
Historical Thinking Skills Historical Argument: Create a clear, analytical thesis, supported by accurate, relevant facts. Interpretation & Synthesis: MOST CHALLENGING!! Analyzing why sources/interpretations vary Apply understanding of the past to develop new understanding Take diverse & varying sources/evidence & analyze to answer a question. How do other disciplines impact history? How does past impact today?

Google Classroom Pages Each of my classes has its own Google class page with its own code to access. Must have school e- mail account to access. Go to Google Classroom. “Join a class.” Enter code. “Stream” tab has important announcements and homework assignments “About” tab has my schedule, link to my e-mail, class calendar, resources (videos, class power points & pdfs of the text book) MUST CHECK DAILY!!

Technology Chromebooks - you will each be assigned a Chromebook number. Take care when you use it and inform me immediately of a problem. Cell phones . . . Never out in class! Must be silenced/muted. And placed in appropriate storage pockets next to the door. You will be assigned a pocket number. If it doesn’t fit in the pocket, it stays up at my desk until the end of class.
