2 ABOUT ME – Ms. McRorie Born and raised in Mooresville, NC Attended Appalachian State University Undergraduate Degree and Master’s Degree in Middle Grades Education 3 rd year teaching Have taught 7 th grade Social Studies all 3 years

4 Curriculum: 7 th Grade World History

5 What will my child be learning in Social Studies? -This class is based around the 7 th Grade North Carolina Essential Standards for Social Studies – link to these standards are on my website -Focus: World Geography, History and Culture: Patterns of Continuity and Change -Time Period: The Great Global Convergence (1400- 1800) to the Present -The standards are organized around Five Strands: -History -Geography and Environmental Literacy -Economics and Financial Literacy -Civics and Governance -Culture -The strands are woven together in an integrated study that helps us understand the world in which we live -7 th Grade SS Common Exam @ end of year is based on these standards - 48 MC questions

6 Units of Study 1st Nine Weeks: Unit 1: Social Studies 101 Unit 2: Renaissance and Reformation Unit 3: Age of Exploration and Global Exchange 2nd Nine Weeks: Unit 4: Age of Enlightenment and Revolutions Unit 5: Industrial Revolution and Society's Response 3rd Nine Weeks: Unit 6: Age of Imperialism Unit 7: World Wars 4th Nine Weeks: Unit 8: Post World Wars and Cold War Unit 9: A New World Order

7 Interactive Student Notebook Students are using an ISN this year in Social Studies It is an 8.5 x 11 spiral notebook The ISN is meant to promote creative, independent thinkers and writers. Interactive notebooks are used for class notes, as well as for other activities where students are asked to express their own ideas and process the information presented in class. Right side = teacher side (notes, articles, vocab, etc) Left side = student side (creative assignments to process what they learned/show what they know) MOST, but not all, assignments are completed in the ISN. Most practice activities are not in the ISN, but kept in their binder They need it in class everyday!

8 CURRENT EVENTS! Students will be required to complete a current event roughly every 2 weeks I will post on my website and send Kiku Texts when current events are due They should use a newspaper article or news article found online The article should not be more than ONE week old from when it is due They must print and attach the article to their write-up and highlight at least important 3 facts in the article The write-up templates are available to print on my website We have done one together in every class so they understand the expectations Some weeks, I will provide students with a topic My website has all the info you need!
