Using Futsal as a development tool for 11 v 11 Title December 2013 Info Using Futsal as a development tool for 11 v 11 Ian Bateman St Georges Park.

Objective for today Where does Futsal link to the future game ? How can it help across all four corners of L.T.P.D. ? How do we deliver the message to the players? Show some defensive practices.

The Future game.

Where is your futsal experience ? Playing…….International, National league, Local league, recreational… Coaching…….international, National, Junior festivals, junior tournaments… Watching……international, adult, junior, T.V. , You tube Qualifications…..Level 1 , Intro course, overseas qualifications

How is the 11 v 11 game changing ? More teams keep possession more frequently. More teams keep possession for longer passing sequences. More passing and receiving situations are evident. More goals are scored from longer, passing sequences. More passes are now played below head height. More runs with the ball are made. More goals are scored from central approaches. More teams are regaining possession deeper and Counter Attacking quicker.

How does this impact on the players ? Increased distances covered in ALL positions. Increased distances covered at high speed. Increased speed and power - ( higher intensity.) Game is played at quicker pace – (ball & player speeds.) Average number of high intensity activities. Higher levels of body strength are now required. Players need to make more instinctive decisions Players need to deal with the ball in tight situations Need for 11 technical players Players need to rotate and interchange positions

Technical Psychological Physical Social What outcomes can Futsal provide us with ? Technical Psychological Physical Social There has been a massive growth in both participation levels AND number of teams. The FA National Futsal league has 3 regional leagues of 6 teams and 2012 saw the introduction of a second tier so that relegation and promotion has been introduced.

The game of Futsal In any given game, the following things are possible: Defensively you might zone, press, combine the two Your team might face the zone, press or combinations You might play a 1-2-2 a 1-3-1 or a 1-4-0 or face the same variety of tactical formations You might play with/against a fly goalkeeper (5v4) You might have a player sent off and have to play for 2 minutes with 3v4 Your team may have conceded 5 team fouls and can’t afford to commit another You will have restarts and chances to carry out pre-planned corners/kick- ins/free kicks

The game of Futsal will give opportunities to “repeat” similar actions, techniques and skills Plus: Players are exposed to playing under pressure There is limited time and space to think There is usually pressure from an opponent There are real tactical elements that can be developed through the game (zone, press, counter attack, man 4 man) It fits ‘developmentally’ with kids who “want to play a game” (Foundation phase) It forces quicker decisions to be made There are connections to be made with football

Familiar shapes and patterns Where does Futsal fit into 11 v 11?

Familiar shapes and patterns

•Vision for the Youth Coach The Future Game Vision for Players ‘To produce technically excellent and innovative players, with exceptional decision making skill’ •Vision for the Youth Coach To produce excellent coaches of children and young players

Its not just about the practice…… How is it delivered ?

Who are the dominant teams in World Futsal ?

Thank you for your input…. Lets see what things look like on court !

What is your clubs coaching / playing philosophy ? Playing through the thirds Creative play in the final third Transitions Retaining the ball to build up the play Defensive principles when to press when to drop.

How do the following constraints effect the game / practice ? Playing 5 v 5 as opposed to 9v9 or 11 v 11 Playing with a futsal ball The size and shape of the goals Playing 5 v 5 to lines rather than rebound boards Having a limit of fouls that a team / player can make Rotating subs Fly keeper 5 v 4 outfield / unprotected goal The score…are you winning of losing…how long is left Playing a match v another team Having time outs in a game.

England winning…..Where all four corners meet… Add word doc…
