11 Skill Acquisition (Ford, Yates, & Williams, 2010; Ford & Williams, 2013; Low, Williams, McRobert, & Ford, 2013). or coaches: methods, approaches and G ‘ Practice activities used in coaching sessions can be split into two categories that have differential effects on skill acquisition. Training Form is mainly drill-based activity in which the coach pre- determines decisions for the players so that they are not actively making them when engaging in the practice, such as a technique practice. Playing Form is mainly games-based activities in which players are actively making decisions themselves based on the positioning of teammates, opponents and space, such as a small-sided game. Playing Form likely leads to greater skill acquisition that transfers to match- play compared to Training Form teaching principles
