Think about… Location (moving or commuting?) Size and type of school Year group and key stages Ethos, teaching methods and styles School performance and reputation Support available for NQT year Career aspirations Question: when would you visit a school? What would you compromise on? What is a deal-breaker? Where would you find this information? How long do you want to stay in your first job?

What’s the difference between a job specification and a personal statement?

Job description and person specification JD: what you’ll be doing in the job (forms part of your contract) PS: what they are looking for (forms the basis of your application)

Job description and person specification JD Teaching pupils according to their educational needs including the setting and marking of their work. Assessing, recording and reporting on the development, progress and attainment of pupils. PS Evidence of a successful teaching practice with more than one year group. Knowledge of effective teaching and learning strategies. Which brings us onto how you write your application…

What’s the Employer thinking? Who are you? Why do you want this job? Why should we give you this job? Four bullet points Stand up, shake hands and introduce yourself!

Documents: Personal Statement Introduces you briefly Identifies each item on a formal PS and shows how you meet that requirement.
