MISSION To set up a STABLE COMMUNITY by connecting companies, Universities, Research Institutions and Associations, thus favoring COOPERATION by promoting RESEARCH AND INNOVATION projects and initiatives. AFIL facilitates R&I in manufacturing sector promoting best practices and enabling technologies in order to support and develop Lombardy production system leadership and competitiveness. To be a REFERENCE counterpart for the REGION in the definition of RESEARCH and INNOVATION strategies for the MANUFACTURING sector. To support the development of a R&I INTERREGIONAL NETWORK through the participation to INTELLIGENT FACTORY NATIONAL CLUSTER (CFI) and the connection with different EUROPEAN REGIONS within the SMART SPECIALIZATION strategy.

Research Centers and Universities Regional level National level European level AFIL ROLE At Regional level it is the intermediary of regional institutions (i.e. Regione Lombardia) with the main objective to define R&I priorities in manufacturing sector. At National level it has been the founder of CFI – Intelligent Factory Cluster. At European level AFIL takes part in the main initiatives and network related to Advanced Manufacturing. (i.e.Vanguard, EFFRA, A.SPIRE…) Industrial companies Research Centers and Universities Associations Project Idea and Execution carried out by cluster members but favored by the cluster organization

Community AFIL Roadmap Thematic WGs Cooperation Projects AFIL TOOLS Actively participating in AFIL enables companies to have all the necessary tools to increase their level of competitiveness and performance. MEMBERS

COMMUNITY The Community is a virtual space where member can interact within private or public thematic working groups and find news and documents related to AFIL activities and interest topics.

CFI ROADMAP METHODOLOGY The objective of the roadmap is to describe Italian manufacturing visions and strategies. Copyright – 2016 – Associazione CFI – Cluster Fabbrica Intelligente

VANGUARD (2014/2016) 28 European Regions. More than 70 AFIL members involved. More than 400 recorded attendances to workgroups meetings. 30 meetings 6 Pilot Plants Ideas submitted to Vanguard initiative Vanguard is a network between the most advanced European Regions, focused on best practices and project sharing within the advanced manufacturing industry; AFIL represents the interest of Lombardy Region as technical referent; The attendance to Vanguard allowed AFIL to involve its members on priority issues in the following European Advanced Manufacturing environments: Efficient and Sustainable Manufacturing (Co-coordinated by AFIL) 3D Printing High Performance Manufacturing for Oil & Gas application

TREC COMPETITION Toward EU Regional Economic Convergence ERICA (2016) TREC COMPETITION Toward EU Regional Economic Convergence 4 Regions involved: Lombardy Catalonia Nord-pas de Calais South Netherlands The aim of the project is the development of methods and support processes aimed to the creation and reinforcement of new industrial value chains in Europe. Identification of best practices for the cooperation between the regional entities resposible for supporting local SMEs in the development and implementation of innovations. Lombardy takes part with AFIL as technological Cluster ITIA-CNR as Research center. AFIL allegiance was a consequence to the active participation to the Vanguard Initiative network.

(Factory of the future) BEinCPPS (2015-2018) The project aims to integrate and experiment a FI-based machine-factory-cloud service platform in European regions, by involving local competence centers and manufacturing SMEs. The final aim of this Innovation Action is to dramatically improve the adoption of CPPSs all over Europe by means of the creation, nurturing and flourishing of CPS-driven regional innovation ecosystems, made of competence centers, manufacturing enterprises and IT SMEs. H2020 – FOF (Factory of the future) 17 Regions involved

INTERREG PROJECTS 3D Central Inter-regional cooperation programs The project aims at connecting “islands of innovation” to a stable network of regions. The main objective is to develop, implement and anchor powerful, practicable, future robust Knowledge Axes for the CENTRAL Europe (KACE) cooperation area. It´s focused on smart engineering & rapid prototyping where a substantial, current & future emerging market for CE cooperation partners is visible. Inter-regional cooperation programs Focus on advanced manufacturing priorities Focus on European macro Regions S34Growth The main objective is to develop and improve existing regional policy instruments to facilitate interregional collaboration, which in turn will support the renewal of Europe’s industry and competitiveness. S34Growth activities build on an innovative methodology identified within the Vanguard Initiative. The focus is on improving the policy framework to test a methodology for industry led interregional cooperation following the S3 principle that can be easily replicated at any domain anywhere in Europe.
