Ferries SSTG members, P&O, SEATRUCK. Offshore SSTG members, BOSTON PUTFORD, NORTH STAR, SEALION Dredgers SSTG members, BRITANNIA, CEMEX, HANSON, TARMAC. Tugs SSTG members, SOLENT TOWAGE. Cable Laying SSTG members, GLOBAL MARINE. Jack Up Barges SSTG members, SEAJACKS. Research vessels SSTG members, GARDLINE. Heavy lift SSTG members, OSPREY. Electro Technical Officers What do officers do? Deck Officers Electro Technical Officers Deck officers will be responsible for the safe navigation of the vessel and all the passengers and crew. Deck officers will be in charge of the unloading and loading of the cargo, Safety equipment including Lifeboats, fire fighting equipment etc. Engineering Officer Electro Technical Officers are responsible for advanced electronic and electrical equipment and computer control systems. Essential maintenance and repair tasks include radio and satellite communications and electronic navigational aids. As an electronic specialist, work includes overseeing and maintaining general IT systems ships power generation and distribution. Engineering officers are responsible for operation and maintenance of all machinery from the main engine to complex computer control systems. Marine Engineers will learn diverse skills to trouble shoot control circuits, overhaul diesel engines or even a refrigeration unit. www.sstg.org

The Training Three years training split into 5 phases Phase 1 at college building academic skills. Phase 2 at sea building practical skills. Phase 3 back at college ongoing studies. Phase 4 back at sea completion of training record book. Phase 5 final college phase completion of academic studies, short courses and final examinations, oral exam and issue of Certificate of Competency. Qualified to work on any ship anywhere in the world.

Which route? HNC/HND Foundation Degree GSCE at grades 9 to 5 2017 0n A to C Pre 2017 National 5 at level A – C, Standard 1 to 3 Grade to include Math’s, Physics (or Dual Science) and English. HNC/HND 48 UCAS points in unspecified subjects. Engineer and ETO to have studied maths or physics Together with good grade in mathematics at GCSE. Foundation Degree www.sstg.org
