3. Range of Computing Undergraduate qualifications
Extended degree
Foundation Degree (FdSc)
Bachelors Degree (BSc, BEng)
Integrated Masters Degree (MEng)

4. Extended Degree A four-year, full time, undergraduate degree course.
Successful applicants enter at year 0 (Preparatory Level).
Designed for applicants who have completed a two- year, post 16, academic programme of study – but who may not have achieved the results required to gain admission to Year 1 of the 3-year BSc courses offered by the Faculty of Computing.
Successful completion of the Preparatory year allows progression to any of the BSc or BEng courses offered by the Faculty of Computing.

5. Foundation Degree
Two-year course – with a period of industrial placement included as part of the second year).
Equips students with a broad range of key skills, technical skills and work related skills.
Students graduating from the FdSc would be able to take up junior/trainee positions in the related sector.
Normally would require 60+ UCAS points as well as GCSE grade C in English Language or key skills qualification level3 (or equivalent). Those with other qualification and experience will also be considered.
Successful completion of the FdSc would allow entry to final year of designated BSc degree programme

6. Bachelor Degree (BSc, BEng)
Three year degree programme (Certificate Level, Intermediate Level and Honours Level)
Entry requirements: GCSE English and Maths at grade C or above (or equivalent), plus one of the following:
at least 140 UCAS points from two or more A- levels/AVCE
a pass in BTEC ND in Computer Studies, Science or relevant subject area with at least three merits in each year excluding common skills
advanced GNVQ distinction.

7. BSc (cont) Or depending on the course
Entry requirements: GCSE English and Maths at grade C or above (or equivalent), plus one of the following:
at least 200 points from two or more A2/A-levels in Applied subjects, one of which must be a numerate science or engineering subject.
At least 180 points from two A-levels in Information Technology, Engineering, Science or Business.
A pass in BTEC National Diploma in Computer Studies, Science or relevant subject with at least four merits in the final year, excluding common skills.

8. BEng
The BEng (Bachelor of Engineering) is a specialist degree usually leading to accreditation from professional bodies
Entry Requirements: GCSE English and Maths at grade C or above (or equivalent) and
a minimum of 160 points from two or more A2/Vocational six-unit awards, one of which must be Mathematics and the other Physics, Electronics or Engineering;
or a minimum of 160 points from a Vocational twelve-unit award in Engineering;
or a pass in BTEC National Diploma in Engineering or relevant subject area with at least four merits in the final year excluding common skills; one merit must be in Mathematics.

9. Integrated Masters Degree (MEng)
The Master of Engineering (MEng) is a four-year first- degree course (i.e. one year of study beyond the level of BEng or BSc).
The MEng qualifies for LEA funding into the fourth year and satisfies the academic requirements for Chartered Engineer status
Entry requirements are GCSE English and Mathematics at grade C or above (or equivalent) plus one of the following:
a minimum of 300 points from two or more A2/Vocational six-unit awards, one of which must be Mathematics and the other Physics, Electronics or Engineering;
or a minimum of 300 points from a Vocational twelve-unit award in Engineering;
or a pass in BTEC National Diploma in Engineering or relevant subject area with at least four merits in the final year excluding common skills; one merit must be in Mathematics.

10. Single and Joints
Some Bachelor degree programmes exit a Single Honours programme
Other also have a Joint pathway – so it can be joined with another degree programme (50:50)
e.g. BSc Computer Games and Mathematics or BSc Business Information Technology and Marketing

11. Approved Prior (Experience) Learning
Prior academic qualifications/work-based experience may exempt you from part of a course.
