Leadership Inquiry

What the research says TEACHER PROFESSIONAL LEARNING AND DEVELOPMENT: BEST EVIDENCE SYNTHESIS ITERATION (2007) THIS BEST EVIDENCE SYNTHESIS IDENTIFIES THAT THE MOST POWERFUL PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT FOR TEACHERS INVOLVES THEM IN AN INQUIRY AND KNOWLEDGE-BUILDING CYCLE, THAT: IDENTIFIES STUDENTS’ NEEDS DEVELOPS THE SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE TEACHERS REQUIRE TO MEET THOSE NEEDS DETERMINES IF CHANGES IN TEACHING PRACTICE HAVE ACHIEVED THE DESIRED OUTCOMES AND THEREFORE BEEN EFFECTIVE.

Leading Change UNDERSTANDING THE CULTURE OF THE SCHOOL DEVELOPING THE SCHOOL AS A LEARNING COMMUNITY ENGAGING IN REFLECTIVE DIALOGUE HAVING A COLLECTIVE LEARNING FOCUS GATHERING, ANALYSING, INTERPRETING, USING, AND REPORTING EVIDENCE, TO INFORM PRACTICE APPLICATION TO INDIVIDUAL LEADERSHIP INQUIRY

Leadership Inquiry EACH PARTICIPANT IS REQUIRED TO CREATE AND SHARE WITH THIS GROUP EVIDENCE OF ACTIONS AND LEARNING RELATED TO THEIR LEADING CHANGE INQUIRY. YOU WILL DEVELOP A LEADERSHIP INQUIRY, WITHIN YOUR CURRENT SCHOOL PLAN, THAT INVOLVES YOU LEADING CHANGE AND LEADING LEARNING WITH YOUR COLLEAGUES, TO IMPROVE THE LEARNING OUTCOMES OF STUDENTS, WITH A PARTICULAR FOCUS ON MAORI, PASIFIKA AND SPECIAL NEEDS. USE THE LEADER INQUIRY AND KNOWLEDGE- BUILDING CYCLE TO PROMOTE VALUED TEACHING AND STUDENT OUTCOMES ITS ABOUT INQUIRING INTO YOUR OWN PRACTICE IN DEALING WITH STAFF/OTHER TEACHERS TO IMPROVE OUTCOMES FOR STUDENTS WHAT DO YOU NEED TO DO, TO CHANGE OTHERS, SO OUTCOMES ARE IMPROVED FOR MAORI STUDENTS. ITS ABOUT YOU AS A LEADER! LEADING INQUIRY AT A TEACHER LEVEL USING EVIDENCE IN THE CLASSROOM FOR PROFESSIONAL LEARNING (PROFESSIONAL READING? )

My Inquiry WHAT EDUCATIONAL OUTCOMES ARE VALUED FOR OUR STUDENTS AND HOW ARE OUR STUDENTS DOING IN RELATION TO THESE OUTCOMES? IDEAS WHAT IS HAPPENING IN OUR SCHOOL THAT I COULD INQUIRE INTO? WHAT IS THE EVIDENCE? WHAT KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS DO WE NEED AS TEACHERS TO IMPROVE STUDENT OUTCOMES? IDEAS SPECIFICALLY WHAT DO WE AS TEACHERS NEED TO DO WHAT IS THE EVIDENCE THAT THIS WILL WORK? HOW CAN WE AS LEADERS PROMOTE OUR OWN LEARNING & THE LEARNING OF OUR TEACHERS TO BRIDGE THE GAP FOR OUR STUDENTS? IDEAS HOW CAN I AS A LEADER PROMOTE WHAT TEACHERS NEED TO DO? WHAT ARE ALL THE POSSIBLE OPTIONS? WHICH ONE SHALL I TRY FIRST? HOW WILL THIS GROW ME AS A LEADER?

Developing your Leadership Inquiry What will my leadership inquiry focus be? What is your question? (What evidence is there to support this?) HOW CAN I…..? What do the teachers I work with need to do or know? (What is the evidence this will work? How will you promote what the teachers needed to know or do? What do you hope to learn about yourself as a leader? Does this fit with your Leadership development plan? What actions will you take? Who will help you?
