INTRODUCTION Tameka Adams EDU 671 Newton Miller September 13, 2016

Me and my family

Professional background & experience Hi I am Tameka Adams, I have a five year old daughter and a husband whom I have known since middle school and we have been married for a year. I am a lead teacher at the Head Start program for Union County Community Action. Over the years I have had a great opportunity to teach a diverse group of children I am passionate about working with children and providing a safe, loving classroom environment. I aim for my students to be actively and personally engaged in their learnings and continuously growing in their learned skills.

Background as a K-12 student During grade school I was an average student I loved school and struggled in math, but that did not stop me from working hard to graduate and go to college to continue my studies and dream of becoming a teacher. The person who has inspired me since grade school would be Maya Angelou. I have always loved her poetry and I use to write poems back in high school. I even named my daughter Justice from a movie called Poetic Justice because throughout the movie Janet Jackson read aloud some of her famous poems in the movie that related to the story plot in the movie.

Degree program I am enrolled in Early Childhood Education (MAED) program. After obtaining this degree I plan to search for employment as Early Childhood Undergraduate Professor. In order to become a professor at any college you must have a Master degree.

Action research compared to traditional research I was not familiar with action research and traditional research prior to this class, so I researched the definitions. Action research is either research initiated to solve an immediate problem or a reflective process of progressive problem solving led by individuals working with others in teams or as part of a "community of practice" to improve the way they address issues and solve problems (DocBonBon, B. 2015). Traditional research, also known as experimental or quantitative research, it is a very systematic process that demands a standard scientific method(DocBonBon, B. 2015). As I began to read about the definition I can remember doing traditional research in middle school. In my opinion traditional research is research done from the outside with goals of finding the truth about the program or an organization. Action research is looking inside of the traditional research and creating a plan of improving the quality of research.
