VERONICA HERNANDEZ Hello, hello! I was a pre-k teacher for over 10 years while working with Head Start. I also worked for Alvin ISD as a 4 th and 5 th grade dual language math, science and social studies teacher for 3 years. Last week I was hired as a bilingual 4 th grade teacher in Pasadena. I currently hold a B.A. in Early Childhood Education.

MY PERSONAL INTERESTS I enjoy jogging, fishing, the beach, watching movies and spending time with my dad. I also like being around my family.

THIS IS ERIC Eric is one of the main reasons why I continue to strive for the best. He is 12 years old and going to the 7 th grade. I want him to study and to know how important education is. I also teach him about our culture, respect and to always work hard, just like my dad taught us.

MY BACKGROUND AS A K-12 STUDENT From the tender age of five I felt I had to grow up very fast. The sad short story is my mother passed away and the support needed was not there. My brothers were only 5 and 2 years old at the time and we lived poorly with very little emotional support. My father, young at 29 also suffering our loss had to deal with three his kids. I know my father is very proud of his children for what we have become and I want him to see that all his hard work as an immigrant paid off. I have a brother that just retired as a sergeant after serving in the army for 20 years and my other brother is an electrician. I am very proud of them. I was born in the border town of Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas but have lived in Houston, Texas for most of my life. I started school as an ESL student. I went on to graduate from high school and while working for Head Start received my Associates degree in Child Development. I then decided to get B.A. online with Ashford in Early Childhood Development. After that I got certified as an EC-6 generalist teacher and Bilingual Supplemental. I am now working on my Master’s degree in Education.

MY DEGREE PROGRAM I AM CURRENTLY WORKING ON MY MASTER’S IN EDUCATION WITH A SPECIALIZATION IN ELL. I PLAN TO STAY WORKING AS A FOURTH GRADE TEACHER FOR AS LONG AS I CAN. I WOULDN’T MIND TEACHING OTHER GRADE LEVELS UP TO 5 TH GRADE. THE LEARNING EXPERIENCE WOULD BENEFIT ME. I BELIEVE THAT GETTING MY DEGREE WOULD BENEFIT MY BILINGUAL STUDENTS WITH WHOM I CAN IMPLEMENT STRATEGIES AND ALL I HAVE LEARNED TO HELP THEM ACQUIRE A SECOND LANGUAGE. I FELT I WAS A SINK OR SWIM STUDENT AND DID NOT HAVE THE BILINGUAL SUPPORT I NEEDED. I WANT TO HELP MY STUDENTS THE BEST WAY POSSIBLE AND WITH TRANSITIONS THROUGH SCHOOL.

MY FAVORITE QUOTE ATTITUDE IS A LITTLE THING THAT MAKES A BIG DIFFERENCE WINSTON CHURCHILL I BELIEVE THAT A TEACHER’S ATTITUDE REFLECTS ON HER STUDENTS, SO IF A TEACHER IS ENTHUSIASTIC ABOUT LEARNING, A POSITIVE ROLE MODEL, A CARING PERSON, A PERSON WHO HELPS OUT AT SCHOOL AND IT’S COMMUNITY, THEN THE STUDENTS WILL PERCEIVE THAT ATTITUDE AND COPY IT.
