UTILIZING INSTITUTIONAL RESEARCH IN GREEK LIFE KAYLA MUNCIE AND CRAIG THIS

WHY USE IR FOR GREEK LIFE? RECRUITMENT AND RETENTION KNOW YOUR MEMBERS ACADEMICS SOCIOECONOMIC STATUS ETHNICITY/RACE COMPETING INTERESTS

WHAT DOES IR HAVE ACCESS TO BEFORE STUDENTS ENTER COLLEGE? HIGH SCHOOL GPA HIGH SCHOOL ACT/SAT SCORES COLLEGE PLACEMENTS TEST SCORES COLLEGE MAJORS/ MINORS HOMETOWN COUNTRY, STATE, COUNTY, AND CITY ATTENDED HIGH SCHOOL DEMOGRAPHICS GENDER RACE/ ETHNICITY AGE SOCIOECONOMICS MARITAL STATUS SEXUAL ORIENTATION

WHAT DOES IR HAVE ACCESS TO POST 1 ST SEMESTER? COLLEGE GPA LIVING ON CAMPUS/ COMMUTER UPDATED SOCIOECONOMIC INFORMATION COLLEGE STATUS EXACT AMOUNT OF CREDIT HOURS COMPLETED INVOLVEMENT IN OTHER ORGANIZATIONS

DATA THAT IR IS STARTING TO COLLECT SEX SEXUAL ORIENTATION GENDER

HOW DOES IR DISTRIBUTE THEIR DATA? AGGREGATED TESTS SCORES GPA’S SOCIOECONOMIC INFORMATION MAJORS AND MINORS STATE, COUNTY, CITY, HIGH SCHOOL DISABILITIES INDIVIDUAL RECORD GPA’S FOR MEETING REQUIREMENTS MAJORS AND MINORS

WHAT DOES IR HAVE ACCESS TO? GENDER RACE/ ETHNICITY COLLEGE AND HIGH SCHOOL GPA’S TEST SCORES (COLLEGE ENTRANCE EXAMS AND PLACEMENT TESTS) OUTSIDE ACTIVITIES MAJORS AND MINORS FINANCIAL AID INFORMATION STATE, COUNTY, CITY, HIGH SCHOOL LIVING ON CAMPUS/ COMMUTER VETERANS CLASSIFICATION POPULATION TOTAL CREDITS PER SEMESTER, YEAR, AND ENTIRE TOTAL AND MORE!

DATA IR NEEDS FROM GREEKS STUDENTS INVOLVED IN GREEK LIFE CHAPTERS STUDENTS ARE INVOLVED WITH ACTIVES, DISAFFILIATES, ALUMNI FOR MORE IN-DEPTH ANALYSIS: LEGACY INFORMATION LEADERSHIP ROLES WITHIN THEIR CHAPTER OTHER INVOLVEMENT IN ORGANIZATIONS/LEADERSHIP ROLES

GENDER OF GREEKS This chart displays a higher majority of females. This implies we should be working on retention and recruitment for our male Greek population.

AGES OF GREEKS Ages of the Greek populations helps us further understand what are our members priorities at this stage in their life and how to help them with the next steps in the academic or future endeavors.

GREEK CLASSIFICATION Knowing the classification of your members helps show your retention from year to year. It allows you to have programs for your members according to their personal interests. In this chart you notice the highest population is seniors and the lowest is freshmen.

GREEK MAJORS Importance of knowing majors of students and how it effects their success rates as Greeks and students Major most likely to disaffiliate before graduation: Nursing Major most likely not to disaffiliate: Nursing

GREEK ACT SCORES Students with a better ACT score are typically proven to be more prepared for college. It is important to compare your university ACT scores to the Greek ACT scores on your campus. Understanding the level of academia your members are at will help you provide and create the resources your members may need.

GREEK GPA’S Greek GPA’s can show the academic performance of Greeks. It can be broken down in different ways such as chapters or classification. IR can compare HS GPA’s to college GPA’s to see the correlations.

GREEK ETHNICITIES Greek ethnicities tell us a lot about who we recruit and the members we retain retain. If are Greek life has a major majority or minority it shows us who we should reach out to. This will help us become more diverse and inclusive as a Greek life.

WHERE ARE GREEKS FROM? Where someone is from can tell us a lot about how someone is adapting to college. This information can help with programming accordingly and effectively. The distance can also helps us infer the amount of time a student spends on campus because how close or far their home is.

HOW LONG DO GREEKS STAY ACTIVE? TRACKING GREEKS COLLEGE CAREER IR HAS ACCESS TO THE YEAR A MEMBER JOINS, GOES ALUM, OR DISAFFILIATES. IT IS IMPORTANT TO TRACK THE STUDENTS WHO DO DISAFFILIATE TO SEE IF THERE ARE COMMONALITIES BETWEEN THESE STUDENTS. BY TRACKING YOUR MEMBERS COLLEGE CAREERS YOU WILL SEE ON AVERAGE HOW LONG DO MEMBERS STAY ACTIVE, THE TYPE OF MEMBERS WHO ARE DROPPING, AND THE TYPE OF MEMBERS STAYING ACTIVE.

WHY DO MEMBERS DROP? WHAT TO ASK OURSELVES ABOUT DISAFFILIATES WHAT MAJOR THEIR MAJORS? WHAT IS THEIR GPA? WHERE ARE THEY FROM? HOW DO THEY PAY FOR COLLEGE? DO THEY LIVE ON CAMPUS? WHAT IS THEIR ETHNICITY? WHAT IS THEIR AGE? HOW LONG DID THEY STAY AFFILIATED? WHEN DID THEY JOIN? INVOLVED IN OTHER ACTIVITIES ON CAMPUS?

WHAT SHOULD WE KNOW TO RETAIN OUR MEMBERS? CORRELATIONS FOR WHO GOES GREEK AT YOUR UNIVERSITY AND THE MEMBERS WHO STAY GREEK WHAT SHOULD YOUR UNIVERSITY BE DOING TO MAKE GREEK LIFE MORE INCLUSIVE TO CERTAIN STUDENTS? HOW IS GREEK LIFE EFFECTING ITS MEMBERS GPAS? IS THERE LARGE DIFFERENCES IN SOCIOECONOMIC STATUSES BETWEEN MEMBERS?
