Target Setting and monitoring in year 7

 To provide students with a meaningful aim for the end of year and end of GCSEs  To allow students to track their progress in each subject throughout the year.  To stretch and challenge students to aim higher…. Why set targets?

 Students in year 6 achieve a scaled score  Hard to convert to GCSE grades  Use CATs and Baseline assessments to establish starting points  These are used to provide GCSE estimates How Targets are set across subjects?

 Will use a 1 to 9 scale New GCSE grading system

 End of GCSE estimate = 8  End of year 10 = 7  End of year 9 = 6  End of year 8 = 5  End of year 7 = 4 Estimate achievement

 Staff will adapt assessments for the new system  Students who have not achieved 1 will be working towards  In certain subjects, initial grades will be lower. Eg Languages, History, Art Assessing progress

 Initial Targets will be set by the end of September.  These will be reviewed in Term 2, and may change.  Targets will be written in planners and subject books.  Students will have an End of Year 7 Target. In year 7

 Teachers assess home learning tasks and should assess at least two pieces of work per term using a grade.  Teachers log the results in Mark Books which are then monitored by Heads of Subject.  At the end of each term students will be given an Engagement for Learning grade and a Currently Working At Grade.  Senior Leadership team monitor progress identifying both excellent achievement and under achievement.
