Parent Night Welcome to 2 nd Grade!

Tardies and Absences Students are tardy if they are not in their seat at 8:20 when the bell rings. Students are absent if they are not in the building at 9:45 when the bell rings. Please send a doctor’s note the day your student comes back from an absence due to an illness. It must be sent within 5 days of the absence.

Homework Homework should only take 10 – 15 minutes a night, plus 15 – 20 minutes of reading practice. Your child will bring home their homework folder each Monday and needs to be turned in each Thursday. Daily reading needs to be recorded in the reading log in your child's homework folder.

Discipline The Nurtured Heart Approach is the behavior management system used in my classroom. The students will take a quick “reset” when not following the rules/expectations. I will focus on the positive behaviors observed in the classroom. As far as parent communication “no news is good news”. Please check their Tuesday Folder for a brief description of any consistent off task behavior. If necessary a note (Uh Oh Note) or will be sent to you. Be sure to praise them for all of the greatness you see in their folder!

Tuesday Folder Your child will be given a weekly conduct grade (class participation, using time wisely, general conduct, and follows directions) An average of the weekly grades will determine the final conduct grade for the 9 week period. Great job check marks for behavior can be found in your child’s Tuesday Folder Your child will come home with their folder on Tuesday, please sign and return empty on Wednesday.

Grading Period Klein elementary schools are on a 9 week grading period. Progress reports will be sent home on the 5 th week. A grade (with no minimum) will be entered into the grade book for any assignment. If a student scores 69 or below on a test, the student may be given the opportunity for reteach/retest. The student will be given an average of the two grades however, not to exceed a 70 overall.

Dress code No tank tops, spaghetti straps, or muscle shirts Shorts and skirts must be at mid-thigh No head coverings (bandannas, scarves, hats) Please no sandals on PE days.

Conferences Before or after school most days. Contact your child’s teacher if you would like to schedule a conference. Monday, Tuesday and Friday – 8:30

Parent Conference Day Parent conference day will be Monday, October 12 th. I will send out a reminder the Tuesday before We will discuss your child’s progress so far
