Unit 8 Task 3

Promotional A lot of bands use music videos to promote their image, style and what they stand for. Bands like rage against the machine created a fames video. The band protested out side Wall Street after it had it made it biggest profit yet biggest lay off, rage against the machine were told they were not allowed to play however did as a sign of protest outside Wall Street, majority of the video is a video of they playing outside wall street. The rest of the video is fact an statistic of the poverty in America. This video promotes the image of Rage Against the Machine proving what they stand for with their music, It shows the extent that they go through to stand for what they believe in.

Promotional The music video clearly help promote this bands image, this is one of the main purposes of the band. Music video can also be used to promote products and films and other bands. Company's can pay £1000’s to have their product shown (promoted) on a music video, the product would depend on who the audience is aimed at and the price on how popular the band are.

Extension Of Outlets Proving more popular than radio stations the public prefer to listen to music on the internet or television with a music video in front of them poll’s state that they find the music more enjoyable when they have something visual engaging them at the same time. This makes it essential for any band that want to promote themselves to the world to create a music video so that they can be played on music channels to create a bigger fan base. Also having a bands music video played on a music channels generates them money.

Extension Of Outlets DvD and CD sales when first created were high as everyone wanted to hear and see there artists when they wanted however the internet was not around to give them such luxury. Music shops were never out of business a lot of the CD sales helped to keep the music industry well financed. While in music shops it was often people would discover different bands their for meaning CD shops in them self promoted up and coming bands. The the 31 st of May 2012 the internet officially over took physical forms of music (CD’s, records etc). Bands like the arctic monkeys used CD’s to give away at the end of gigs. It was said this had the snow ball effect as more people file sharing and eventually Arctic Money had a large amount of fans “We were giving them away free anyway – that was a better way for people to hear them”. This one of the first examples of a Band becoming famous through the internet. With out the internet the arctic monkeys album will off never reach the 1000’ that it idid

Extension Of Outlets The the 31 st of May 2012 the internet officially over took physical forms of music (CD’s, records etc). The Internet is used to promote bands all over the bands. Social network sites have aided bands to increase their fan base. The arctic monkeys gathered a huge fan base from a fan made my space account which kept fans informed. Other Bands like the Gorillaz website have created a world with in their web site where you have to play games and compete in challenges in order to discover more about the ban and increase their fan base

Synergy Music Videos also promote bands film, it is common if a artist creates a song that appears in a film then in the music video it will contain footage of the film. In a way both of these films are promoting each other because an audience member cant watch one with out becoming aware of the other. Bands like guns’n’roses who In their own music video contained footage off the film terminator clearly promoting the film. Music video and film (synergy) is one of the best ways to get people to here your song. Songs that are used in Tv songs is also a great way to get a bands music heard “I’ll be there for you” by Rembrandts was not a success song on its own however due to friends millions of people around the world know their song, their music video also involves the characters from the hit US show friends on screen. This clearly gathered a lot of attention to their music video. Promoting the music video

Producer strategies Using the internet there are many way a producer can adverse there bands in order to create more of an audience and generally broad cast the band. The internet has become the most common way to do this. Snippets of music videos now get leaked onto the internet. These are almost like trailers for the music videos, the advertisement is placed all over the internet building up anticipation and keep fans interested in the band. In todays easy internet access producers have a music easier job due to the fact that sharing music is a common thing to the point where websites have been created just to share download and listen to music and music video. Possible to create more money the producer will allow product placement in the music video some fans say this is a brilliant idea and is healthy for the music industry however product placement puts other fans off listening the music or watching the video due to the them calming its “selling out”. r=0 r=0

Producer strategies Bands can also promote each other which often happens with bands under the same label. In a foo fighters music video Jack black. This is putting to hugely popular icons in a music video to reach out to as many people as possible. The main steam music how rarely even has a solo artist it often has to people from different genres H28
