Linking Verbs Many verbs are action words. These verbs may tell the action that the subject did in the past. Some verbs do not show action.

Linking Verbs The verbs was and were do not show action. These verbs are linking verbs. They link the subject to a word that tells about the subject in the past.

Linking Verbs Use was when there is one in the subject. Use were when there is more than one in the subject.
