Why do individuals choose NOT to use Twitter? Not quite sure what Twitter is Do not know how to use Twitter Overwhelming Not easy to follow/find people you know Do not have the time Do not have anything to offer 140 characters is too short of a message

Choose your username -- short and easy Click “Next” Click “Let’s Go” What interests you? Type topics in the “search box” Click “Continue” You can choose to import your contacts through Click either “import contacts” or “no thanks”

INDIVIDUAL TWEET ICONS Graphics Interchange Format Format that supports dynamic and static images Add Your Location Add A Picture Add A Poll

140 Characters Is Not Enough! Twitterstorm To indicate tweets are meant to be read together, users will include “1/2” and “2/2” to let followers know there is more than a single tweet Twitter’s Threaded Conversations Feature Write first tweet of series Reply to your own tweet Twitter will then pre-populate a tweet starting with your username for you You can then delete your username to have a full 140 characters to write Once you have posted all your tweets, Twitter will display them grouped together in a threaded conversation

PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE Create a Tweet yourself Don’t forget to add other people/states into your Tweet! #PinedaleSummit16

Why SHOULD we use Twitter? Responsibility as leaders If we provide value, members will see value Fills the gaps between big professional development conferences Allows professionals to feel connected to conferences and conventions even though he or she is not able to go We provide a professional presence in social media for advocacy in our field (national and local) Helps teachers feel connected who feel that he or she is one their own “island”
