Presentation transcript:

 Take out World History notebook, folder and pencil box.  Put away your backpack.  At the BACK of your notebook, write: Title: Walk-In Date: 8/11/16 Copy the question and answer in sentences. Why do you think humans long ago began to live in communities?

 Humans began to live in communities long ago so they could  Protect each other  Share foods and resources  Build shelters with everyone’s help  Have company

Early Asian Civilizations

 Each Walk-In question goes at the BACK of your notebook.  Put the date in the TOP RIGHT CORNER.  Write the title Walk-In.  Copy the question in your notebook.  Answer it the best you can. It’s okay if you’re wrong, but it’s not okay not to try.

 Each day, you can earn 5 points for being “ready to learn”.  That means you have taken out your supplies, put your backpack away, and gotten started on the Walk-In question, within 2 minutes of the bell going.  You get 5 points if you are ready and working!

 Daily notes go at the FRONT of your notebook.  You do not need to start on a fresh page. Begin a new day’s work right below where you left off the day before.  Write the date at the top right corner.  Write the title in the middle of the page.  Handouts go into your WH folder, in the order that you got them (keeps handouts organized!).

 Rather than focus on itty-bitty little facts and dates, we will zero in on BIG IDEAS.  We will answer Essential Questions about each civilization that we study.  Consider the questions on the half- sheet handout.

 TSWBAT explain how factors like geography, law, religion, government, science and technology shaped early Asian civilizations.

 0 -I don’t know what factors determine how Asian civilization forms.  1 - I know the factors but not how they determine how Asian civilization develops.  2 - I know some of the factors and how they determine how Asian civilization develops.  3 - I know all of the factors and how they determine how Asian civilization develops.  4 - I know all of the factors, how they determine how Asian civilization develops, and how civilizations are related.

 Use the table positions of A,B, C, D to know who is getting books for their table.  Please take out and put away books carefully!  A’s, please get textbooks for your table.

 Read and look at page 2 to 3  What can we learn about the people who built Stonehenge?  They were able to use tools (like antlers and bones to dig).  They may have wanted to keep track of time (for planting, harvesting and for special days).  They had figured out a way to lift very heavy stones.

 What can we learn about the people who built such a structure in 2500 B.C.?  Watch this re-enactment!this re-enactment  What amazed you?!

 We often see early humans depicted like this:  What do we assume about these early humans?

 Watch this video clip about the paintings.video clip  Read along on pages 6 – 7.  Wonder about:  Why did prehistoric humans from 15,000 years ago draw and paint pictures in caves?!?

 We will investigate more about these paintings by doing a research Web Quest.  Go to the class webpage, Find work for THIS WEEK. (Aug. 8 to 12) Look at Friday, 8/12. Click the resource and follow the directions.

 What do we figure out about the painters of the Lascaux Paintings?  The Lascaux Paintings show early humans may have wanted to  Record their daily activities like hunting.  Keep track of how many animals they hunted.  Use their free time to be creative.  Learn to do fine-motor activities with their hands.

 Using colors that could be obtained from roots, berries and other plants, create a cave painting that helps tell the story of the hunt, and other important events in the cave people’s lives.  On the side, write the story in words, explaining how you, a cave person, might have lived, and why you used art to record events from your life!
