The Indus River had mountains to the north, but Mesopotamia was mostly a flat, semiarid area.

The Harappans had PLANNED cities that featured:
Heavy city walls to protect the city inside.
Streets that formed a neat grid with square corners, keeping the city well organized.
Large buildings for religious and government use, and houses, shops and factories within each square of the grid.

Harappan Civilizations formed in the Indus River Valley, before 2500 BC.
They had neatly built cities, with modern drainage to get rid of “human wastes”.
We infer they had strong leaders and government because they were so advanced.
