Simple past The simple present is used to talk about actions that happened in the past. Regular verbs 1)To form the simple past, add –ed to the base form of the verb. Ex) I worked at a clothing store last summer. I helped customers. 2) For words ending in e, add -d. I served lunch and dinner. I prepared take – out orders. 3) For words ending in y, drop the y and add –ied. Tom applied for a position as a web designer. He studied web design in college. 4

Irregular Verbs The verb be is irregular in the simple past. It has two forms was and were. Was is singular form(is, am) and were is plural form(are). My internship was a good experience. The people were great. 6
